Brittany Zorn, IRT ’13 (left) and Leislie Godo-Solo, IRT ’91 attended The White Privilege Conference this past spring.

Leislie Godo- Solo, IRT ’91
Leislie recently visited the ThirdSpace Action Lab in Cleveland, Ohio where IRT alumna Dr. Sherrae Mack, IRT’10, serves as a Senior Consultant. The ThirdSpace Action Lab is a cooperative of institutional and community organizers who engage in place-based solutions to actualize racial equity. The Lab was created to disrupt the vicious cycle of disinvestment and displacement that exploit low-income communities of color and trains community members in strategic planning and the causes of racial bias while also providing space to groupthink and collaborate around equitable and sustainable solutions. The Lab’s staff conduct research about the Hough neighborhood, generate content to explain issues, and facilitate conversations at the Lab that encourage discussion and consensus on next steps.

Dane Peters, IRT ’20
Dane is finishing his fourth year as a graduate research assistant at the Black Education Research Center at Teachers College, Columbia University. Dane has presented at AERA and other conferences and is preparing for the next phase of doctoral studies, focusing on his pre-proposal and pilot study.

I am deeply honored to contribute to NYC’s historic K-12 Black Studies curriculum. Leading lesson plan development and teacher PD has been both challenging and rewarding.

Alicia Alvarez, IRT ’21
Congratulations to Alicia, who will be matriculating into the University of California, Los Angeles Master’s in Social Welfare program, with a focus on mental health. Alicia’s goal is to become a mental health professional serving Latinx youth and families.
