Reconnecting with our Community

IRT staff have been busy meeting up with alumni and educators at conferences and events. Highlights from the team’s travels are below.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting

The AERA Annual Meeting was held in Philadelphia this past April bringing together education researchers and scholars. The meeting’s theme was Dismantling Racial Injustice and Constructing Educational Possibilities: A Call to Action. IRT Executive Director LaShawnda Brooks and Arts & Sciences Specialist Brittany Zorn, IRT ’13 attended and had the chance to connect with many IRT alumni during the week. The IRT hosted an alumni social gathering while in Philly at the PHS Pop Up Garden South Street.

Paula Groves Price, IRT ’95
Congratulations to Paula who has received the Zenobia Hikes Award for an administrator in Higher Education. The award recognizes a woman of color with a distinguished career in higher education demonstrated by scholarly endeavors or administrative and professional accomplishments. Paula is the Dean of the College of Education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Rachel Ansong, IRT ’14

Rachel’s poetry collection, BLACK BALLAD, published by Bull City Press will be available in Summer 2022. You can preorder a copy or find out more about the author and the collection on Rachel’s website.

Yasmin Elgoharry, IRT ‘14, ’20
Yasmin is a recipient of the University of Connecticut’s (UCONN) Neag School 2022 Alumni Board Scholarship. Yasmin is a doctoral student at UCONN in Leading, Learning & Educational Policy with a concentration in higher education racial justice and decolonization.
