IRT Scholars and alums are gearing up for our 33rd Summer Workshop. As Freire reminds us, education is a tool for liberation and love. I am excited that we have continued to expand on the Summer Workshop – now allowing IRT Faculty to instruct, design, and facilitate their courses. Our online platform enables scholars to engage live and through recordings – and we can support all IRT Scholars with curriculum and robust advising.

In our current times, we must be instructing scholars in frameworks and methodologies we are seeing in the field and our courses of study. Our IRT alums have unique perspectives, research, and pedagogical approaches. We are grateful to have such a robust community of scholars, practitioners and more to help build a place of intellectual inquiry and holistic student development.

Associate Director & Manager of Programs Update, September 2023

Dear IRT Community,

I hope that your Fall has gotten off to a productive start! IRT had a busy Summer of advising, programming, and outreach.

With the launch of our new IRT Scholar cohort this past Summer, we were able to co-construct a curriculum that named the moment, built up scholar capacity, and took into account the shifting educational landscape as a result of the SCOTUS decisions. IRT has never been an organization to shy away from controversy and challenge but instead seeks out input and innovation. IRT Scholars know that they benefit from having diverse educators who are both mirrors and windows into who they are, what they stand for, and who they stand with. In turn, our scholars are eager to give back and provide support and solace for their communities across the PK-12 through the higher education pipeline.

“We are the leaders we’ve been waiting for!” Grace Lee Boggs

Hello esteemed IRT alums! Now that I have your attention! Are you looking for part-time Summer employment that aligns with your commitment to teach and lead for justice? Are you in search of a community that values a sense of belonging and is eager for you to share your wisdom while at the same time giving you opportunities to grow and innovate your teaching skills. Well you have come to the right place!

We are currently seeking IRT Summer Workshop faculty to teach in our IRT 2023 Workshop. This year’s workshop will be facilitated virtually so that all scholars, no matter where they live in the United States, can participate and engage with the curriculum materials as well as meet with IRT alums and Consortium partners. Our workshop sessions will be highly interactive and engaging as we seek to support and prepare the next generation of diverse educators to teach and lead in PK-12 through higher education.

Please consider submitting an application or pass this onto a fellow IRT alum. Many thanks! Applications are due March 17, 2023.
