Dr. Aria Halliday, IRT ‘11 spoke at the University of California, Berkeley on a panel called “On Erotic Mastery: Pornography, Hip Hop Feminisms, and Transness” on March 1, 2023. The panel was hosted by Dr. Peace and Love El Henson, as part of the Black Studies Collaboratory Open University spring symposium.

Hello esteemed IRT alums! Now that I have your attention! Are you looking for part-time Summer employment that aligns with your commitment to teach and lead for justice? Are you in search of a community that values a sense of belonging and is eager for you to share your wisdom while at the same time giving you opportunities to grow and innovate your teaching skills. Well you have come to the right place! 

We are currently seeking IRT Summer Workshop faculty to teach in our IRT 2023 Workshop. This year’s workshop will be facilitated virtually so that all scholars, no matter where they live in the United States, can participate and engage with the curriculum materials as well as meet with IRT alums and Consortium partners. Our workshop sessions will be highly interactive and engaging as we seek to support and prepare the next generation of diverse educators to teach and lead in PK-12 through higher education.

Teaching Fellow Program

The Phillips Academy Teaching Fellow Program is also accepting applications for Teaching Fellow positions for the 2023-2024 school year. This program offers those yet to begin a professional career a program of guided classroom work, professional seminars, and exposure to the theories and methods of experienced teaching faculty.  To learn more about the program and gain access to the application portal, please visit our website.

IRT Presence Virtually and On the Road

Interacting with students and colleagues has always been a strong area of focus for the IRT. These past few months have kept our team busy on the road as many regional events begin to expand their formats to include in-person sessions. The IRT has taken these opportunities to connect and further the discussion of shared experiences and mutual goals with educational and community partners across the country.

UNCF/Mellon Programs Conference: October 6-8, 2022
Atlanta, GA

IRT Education Programs Specialist Leislie Godo-Solo, IRT ’91 attended the UNCF/Mellon Programs Conference in October, where she also gave a presentation about IRT programs to new Mellon Coordinators and caught up with IRT alumni who were guest panelists during the two-day event.

Renee Johnson-Thornton, IRT ’05
Senior Program Associate and Associate Director of MMUF at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation was one of the guest speakers during the Conference Opening titled “Answering the Call to Transform the Academy.”

George Pratt, IRT ’22
A current senior at Morehouse College, Pratt participated on the Mentee/Mentor Relationship panel during the UNCF/Mellon Programs Conference in Atlanta. George accepted the Marshall Scholarship while working with the IRT this fall and will pursue his MPhil at the University of Oxford.

IRT Alumni Panels – Engaging with Current Scholars

The continuation of the IRT Post Advising Season began on a high note in January when Leislie Godo-Solo ‘91, Education Programs Specialist, and Brittany Zorn ‘13 Arts and Sciences Programs Specialist, moderated the last of nine alumni panels held through-out the year this January. The panels are one part of the comprehensive advising program for current Scholars. They provide access and invaluable insight from alumni who share their journeys pursuing their Master’s and Ph.D. degrees.
